Create "A Wider Circle": A VISTA Opportunity in Marketing and Fund-Raising
Serve neighbors in need! More than 1 out of every 3 children in our nation's capital lives in deep poverty. You can change that! Work at A Wider Circle, a grassroots non-profit organization that has developed effective solutions for helping children and adults break the cycles of poverty.
We are now accepting resumes for a 1 year - full time AmeriCorps*VISTA position that we would like to fill immediately. A Wider Circle’s mission is to empower children and adults to break the cycles of poverty. Our comprehensive wellness programming and the delivery of basic needs helps individuals and families achieve greater stability and independence. Our programs touch people of all ages and in a variety of setting throughout the Washington, DC area.
Specific programs include: Neighbor to Neighbor, Well Mother Well Baby, School Community Project, Public Housing Initiative, and Shelter Support.
As the Marketing and Fundraising Coordinator you will have the chance to work closely with our Management Team and Fundraising Committee, to identify and pursue new sources of sustainable funding to support all of our programs and operations.
Your responsibilities will include developing and managing our database of current and potential donors; building relationships with current and potential donors including foundations, associations, corporations, civic organizations, educational institutions, neighborhoods, etc; researching, writing, and tracking grants, etc.; and coordinating various fundraising events and initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
1. Excellent communication skills - computer (MS OFFICE), written, and verbal
2. Prior experience and commitment to working with nonprofits providing services to low income communities desirable
3. Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team
4. Must be able to work in an office setting where needs are constantly changing
5. Must be absolutely committed to high quality customer service
6. BS/BA preferred , graduate degree in related field desirable
7. Prior experience in development, fundraising, or marketing desirable.
The benefits you will receive during your year of service as an AmeriCorps*VISTA member include:
A living allowance of $949 per month;
Health insurance coverage; personal days and sick days available; assistance with child care costs if warranted; assistance with moving expenses and travel expenses if applicable.
At the end of your Service Year you will also receive a tuition award of $4,725 or a cash stipend of $1,200.
Through your efforts we will have a creative and active Marketing and Fundraising plan that will result in a sustainable source of income that will allow us to provide more programs to more people as we all work together to end poverty.
