VISTA Opportunities in Baltimore

AmeriCorps*VISTA members are central to Greater Homewood Community Corporation’s effort to strengthen neighborhoods in north central Baltimore. This is your chance to join an exciting 13-member AmeriCorps*VISTA program in this dynamic community organization for a year of meaningful community service. Weekly trainings, team building, and interaction with members highlight this year of high challenge and high support.

Current AmeriCorps VISTA positions at Greater Homewood Community Corporation include:

School Community Partnership Coordinator (Public Education Department) . Become a full-time member of the staff in an inner-city school for a year. Work to coordinate and develop resources in schools and enhance parent and community involvement while empowering families to get involved in their child's education. Serve as a link between the school and the surrounding community and as a community mobilizer to generate new resources for the school

Member Support Coordinator (Experience Corps) Help increase the number of Experience Corps volunteers placed in Baltimore City Schools. Work directly with Experience Corps staff on managing volunteers. Create relevant resources for Experience Corps members on computer training, health and techniques for working with children.

Community Resource Coordinator (Neighborhood and Economic Development Department) Create positive change in neighborhoods through project development. Work with community organizations and partnering programs to develop resources for targeted neighborhoods. Recruit and coordinate community volunteers to support partnering programs.

Public Safety Coordinator (Neighborhood and Economic Development Department) Aid residents in taking back ownership of their neighborhoods. Outreach to residents to help build working relationships between themselves and non resident stakeholders (e.g. schools, businesses, churches, police, etc.) to identify and implement strategies to address needs. Work with a diverse group of city agencies and community organizations to implement crime prevention.

Youth Development Coordinator (Neighborhood and Economic Development) Promote the increase of educational, recreational, and enriching youth programs. Involve youth in their healthy development and in the revitalization of their schools and communities by working with youth providers. Create resources to help encourage school success, community involvement, service, and leadership for youth.

Senior Resource Coordinator (Neighborhood and Economic Development) Help improve the lives of Greater Homewood’s 9,000 older residents. Conduct community outreach efforts to assess the needs of Greater Homewood’s older population. Work with community organizations, private and public agencies, and other groups to develop sustainable resources.

Additional Qualifications:

Ability to work with diverse populations; excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; highly organized and able to work independently; proficient computer skills; demonstrated leadership and project management experience.

Benefits Include:

Bi-weekly living allowance, health care, child care, and $4,725 AmeriCorps Education Award or $1,200 end of year stipend.
