Fight Hunger in Philadelphia as a VISTA

Do you want to gain valuable experience in the non-profit field and make a difference in people’s lives? The Mitzvah Food Project (MFP) AmeriCorps *VISTA program is looking for a VISTA worker to support its hunger relief initiative in Philadelphia. The focus of this position will be on improving the system of nutritional food donations and developing a volunteer management system that will ultimately support MFP recipients, which include low-income children, adults and seniors.

Specific responsibilities may include:

• Recruitment: Determine the current level of participation of various community groups and develop a plan to utilize community partners more effectively in the recruitment of volunteers and the donation of nutritional food.

• Volunteer Coordination: Develop volunteer forms, assignments, tracking methods, volunteer handbook, and training system. Successful candidates for this position will have the following skills and experiences:

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Strong leadership, organizational and planning skills

• Knowledge of Kashrut, preferred

• Knowledge of the local Jewish community, preferred.

The mission of the Mitzvah Food Project is to provide food and basic staples in a caring and dignified manner to those in our community who are in need and to educate and advocate on their behalf. The MFP works in partnership with volunteers and community groups, spearheaded by synagogues and Jewish organizations.
