VISTA
Fighting Poverty with Passion

World Cares Center's
(WCC) mission is to foster safe and effective disaster response and resiliency within communities worldwide. Since its inception, WCC has targeted its services to communities suffering from the psychosocial effects of emergencies and disasters.

We have worked with individuals ranging in age from five to eighty and with diverse ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and primary language. WCC's September Space Community Centers have served over 33,000 individuals affected by disasters, including 9/11, the 2005 Gulf Coast hurricanes, and the Oklahoma City Federal Building bombing. WCC is a member of the NYCVOAD Volunteerism Leadership Team that has created a strategic disaster response plan focused on support and aftercare for NYC's volunteer community as well as the National VOAD, NOVA, Citizen's Corp, and the World Health Organization. September Space Community Centers in Manhattan offer a safe and nurturing environment with free educational and wellness services for those directly affected by 9/11.

A VISTA will be assigned to our Disaster Preparation and Trauma Mitigation (DPTM) Program and will build the capacity of DPTM to provide volunteer management and self-care training for the entire responder community. Responsibilities will include conducting research on issues in disaster volunteering and volunteer management as well as evaluating current trends in disaster management and relief.

Another VISTA will be placed with our Marketing team and will increase organizational exposure by researching organizations within the Chinese-American, Latino, and Arab-American communities of NYC. Additionally, the VISTA will research community organizations serving low-income and under-served populations on the Gulf Coast.

A third VISTA will implement development initiatives and research new foundation and corporate prospects, developing strategy in gaining individual donors and being active within special event planning. If possible, please specify which position you are interested in.
