The Elder Storytelling Place provides a gathering place for people 50+ to share stories about their lives and "meet" others whose experiences will enlighten and inspire.

Low-income Philadelphia homeowners, age 60 and over, may apply for free repairs and modifications through PCA’s Senior Housing Assistance Repair Program (SHARP). This program provides minor repairs to improve the safety and security of older Philadelphians’ homes--installing or repairing faucets, windows, entry doors, and more. The Nonprofit Center will hold a "Meet the Funders" panel discussion that will focus on today's funding trends and help participants maximize their ability to secure grants by being targeted and precise in their asks. This is a good opportunity to make contact with area funders. A new study done by The John Hopkins Listening Post Project and the Corporation for National and Community Service found that while 80% of nonprofits experienced fiscal stress during the economic downturn, nearly 75% of them were able to maintain or expand services with the help of volunteers. One out of every three organizations increased their reliance on volunteers to cope with the economic downturn between September 2008 and March 2009. To read the study’s summary, click here.

For the past 18 years, the Philadelphia Film Festival has brought the world's imagination to Philadelphia with screenings of nearly 300 features, documentaries, shorts and animation. Volunteers are needed to help produce the 4-day event (October 15-18) and will receive a voucher, good to see any film in the festival (based on availability), for every 6-hour shift completed. Afternoon shifts:11:00am - 5:10pm; evening shifts: 5:00 - 11:00pm. Pre-festival training is required. To learn more, click here.
