Caregivers... Who Are They?

The most recent survey of the nation's family caregivers produced by the National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP (Caregiving in the U.S.,2009), describes who is doing the caregiving and what it entails. No surprises...caregivers are still mostly women who are likely to be employed, usually full-time. Their "second job" takes an average of 19 hours a week. Women Opt for Singlehood

Loved-starved widows, if they ever really existed outside of sitcoms, have gone the way of June Cleaver, according to this New York Times article. They may grieve the deaths of beloved spouses and some will never recover, yet studies show that the vast majority of older widows seem to enjoy being single, joining the larger group of unattached women aging as singles.
