Work with Diverse Communities

Coming of Age is committed to engaging people 50+ in diverse communities in compelling roles and strengthening organizations in those communities. The initiative has a number of partnerships with African-American, Latino, and Southeast Asian organizations on community-building projects.

Here is a sampling of these programs:

• Voluntarios en Acción (Volunteers in Action)— older Latinos are cultivating a community garden, offering tax preparation, providing outreach to elders, etc.  The group meets weekly and is actively involved in filling volunteer roles at Congreso de Latinos Unidos, the sponsoring organization.
• The Southeast Asian Mutual Assistance Associations Coalition— an Elders Council is developing a directory about the assets elders represent for the community.
• Historias de Nuestra Vida (Stories of Our Life)— a digital storytelling project has been created to empower participants to advocate for needed changes in their communities.
